Overview
AlertMe is a solution developed under the Mangalore for Mangalore initiative, where students of Mangalore tackle pressing problems in the city. This unified disaster notification app addresses the challenges of outdated alert systems, providing timely, accurate, and localized information on hazards like floods, tree falls, and landslides. Presented to the Deputy Commissioner of Mangalore, Mullai Muhilan M P, AlertMe is designed to improve disaster response and empower Mangalore’s communities with better tools for safety and preparedness.
Key Features
- Real-Time Alerts: Direct notifications from government authorities on disasters like floods, landslides, and tree falls.
- Emergency Services Integration: Immediate access to police, fire departments, ambulances, and logistics services like Swiggy, Zomato, and Blinkit for fast response.
- Crowdsourced Reporting: Users can report hazards with photos and videos, contributing to faster decision-making and response.
- Personalized Safety Plans: Tailored emergency plans for each user, including evacuation routes and emergency contacts.
- Volunteer Reporting: Allows both verified volunteers and the public to report incidents, promoting faster action and community involvement.
As part of the Mangalore for Mangalore initiative, my teammates and I, including Shannon Pereira, Suhas, and Tejas Nayak B, had the privilege of presenting solution prototype to the Deputy Commissioner of Mangalore, Mullai Muhilan M P. The response was incredibly positive, and we are excited to see how this project can contribute to making Mangalore a safer place for its residents.
